Turn your clutter into cash

We all know that feeling after Christmas when we have no room for any new things and our bedroom just ends up becoming ram-packed and as my mum would say 'a pig sty'. But there are some easy ways to solve this problem and with just a few months to go until Christmas, now might be the time to take the leap and make some space—and of course this blog is about earning and saving money, so your decluttering could add to your piggy bank too.

Don't think of this as just tidying your room—snore zzzz—think if it as a mini-project and get started. Let's turn your clutter into cash!

First create an area and get some old boxes so you can split your items into groups. Next go through everything item by item. Have you used it in the last 2 months and does it bring you enjoyment—do you really need it? Then put things in your boxes, KEEP, SELL, DONATE, STORE. When you start using this system you will realise that there are a lot of things that are just sitting there taking up space that can be used to raise money to donate for someone else to enjoy.

Important things: pictures books your favourite toys or anything that brings you joy but you may have out grown, can be boxed up and stored in the attic or garage.

Cut the clutter and earn toward your goals

A smart way to do this is to create 4 piles when tidying:

Pile 1: The KEEP pile is the space where you put the things you are keeping that you still love, need and use.

Pile 2: The SELL pile is the place where you put the things that that don't bring you enjoyment but would for another family. They should be in good condition and not have any missing parts, suitable to sell. You could sell them on apps like Facebook marketplace, ebay, or Vinted, or even take them to a local car boot sale.

Then there is:

Pile 3: The DONATE pile which is where you put the things that couldn't be sold but could still have plenty of life in them for another child to get enjoyment from. There are lots of local charities in your area where you can donate these items to ensuring they don't go to waste.

Then finally there is;

Pile 4: The STORE pile where you put the things that aren't staying in the same room. For example old toys you want to keep, but not in your room might go to the attic or garage. This is great for special sentimental items.

So with Christmas round the corner, get decluttering, donate to help other families make their Christmas more special, and perhaps add a few pennies to your jar for your savings goals at the same time. Then sit back and enjoy your nice tidy room (while it lasts)! Always aim high, BIG Dreamer
